Tri-cone Bit Overview

Tricone Bit Operation Guidelines

  1. Lower the roller cone drill bit near the well bottom and gradually increase pump displacement to the required level.

  2. After briefly cleaning the well bottom, progressively increase drilling pressure.

  3. Monitor pump pressure to ensure it stays within the drill bit’s technical specifications.

  4. Rotate the bit slowly to prevent sticking.

  5. Inspect the drill bit before use: check outer diameter wear, cutting teeth condition, water eye blockages, and ensure drilling fluid meets design specifications.

  6. Operate the bit similarly to a standard turntable, monitoring parameters such as rotation speed, drilling pressure, and equipment data to assess drilling conditions.

  7. Observe rock chips and drilling performance to identify bit wear, formation changes, or unstable pump pressure caused by broken formations or mud coverage.
