Geothermal Wells

Geothermal drilling presents some of the harshest subsurface conditions—extreme temperatures, abrasive formations, and fluctuating pressure regimes. Deep wells often exceed bottomhole temperatures of 180°C and penetrate hard lithologies such as basalt, granite, and metamorphic rock. These environments impose severe thermal and mechanical stress on drilling tools.

Our geothermal drill bits are engineered to withstand these extremes. High-temperature-resistant materials and thermally stable cutters maintain structural integrity during prolonged exposure to heat and thermal cycling. Reinforced blade bodies resist deformation, while optimized cutter geometry prevents micro-cracking and edge chipping in hard volcanic formations.

To address the high mechanical load typical of deep geothermal intervals, the bit uses an advanced blade layout that distributes weight more evenly and reduces vibration under high WOB. Anti-whirl features enhance toolface stability, protecting BHA components and maintaining consistent cutting action even in irregular or fractured formations.

Efficient cuttings evacuation is critical in high-temperature wells, where fluid properties change with depth. Optimized hydraulic flow paths ensure effective cleaning, enabling steady penetration rates through long, abrasive intervals.

For geothermal operators, drilling efficiency directly influences project economics. Longer single-run footage reduces non-productive time, while reliable performance minimizes bit trips and improves access to deep, hot reservoirs. With durability, stability, and high-energy rock-breaking capability, our geothermal drilling tools support safe, efficient, and cost-effective development of geothermal energy resources.
